Lower Westchester, town by town
Scarsdale sits in the Bronx River valley, surrounded by towns whose chimneys have little in common beyond their age. To the north and west, White Plains, Hartsdale and Edgemont mix 1920s Tudors and colonials with co-op and multi-family buildings that rely on busy boiler chimneys. To the south, Eastchester and Bronxville hold some of the oldest masonry in the area, including the hillside homes of the Lawrence Park Historic District.
To the southeast, New Rochelle, Larchmont and Mamaroneck face Long Island Sound, where salt air corrodes caps and flashing and the lower neighborhoods have seen serious flooding. Each area page below explains the housing and chimney conditions in that town. If you do not see your street, ask us; we likely cover it.
