Chimney sweep and repair in Larchmont, NY
Larchmont is a small village inside the Town of Mamaroneck, and its history is easy to read in the houses. It began as a summer resort on Long Island Sound, and some of the Victorian cottages and hotels from that era survive as private homes. Once the automobile arrived it became one of the earliest commuter suburbs in the country. Even the name is a relic: larch trees were planted along the Boston Post Road to hold down the dust.
Chimney sweep and repair in Larchmont, NY covers more ground than the village line suggests. Much of the area with a Larchmont mailing address is actually unincorporated Town of Mamaroneck, and Chimney Services Pro works across both.

Larchmont Manor: shingle houses by the water
Larchmont Manor occupies the middle of the three necks in the original 1661 land purchase, and Manor Park along its shore was designed by Jeremiah Towle, one of its early summer residents. The Manor is known for Victorian houses, including cedar-shingle Queen Anne designs from the 1880s and 1890s within a short walk of the water.
Wood-framed, shingle-clad houses put extra demands on a chimney. The flashing where masonry meets shingles and roof decking has to be right, because water that gets past it goes straight into wood. Clearances between the chimney and nearby framing matter more on older houses, which were sometimes built with less space than current standards call for. On any Manor house with a ceiling stain or soft trim near the chimney, we check flashing, crown and brick together. Our chimney leak repair page explains how.
Salt air, caps and dampers near the Sound
Close to the water, salt air shortens the life of anything made of ordinary steel. Galvanized caps rust through, damper plates seize, and fasteners holding flashing loosen. We recommend stainless steel or copper caps for shoreline houses, and a top-sealing damper is often worth considering: it closes the flue at the top, keeps salt-laden air and rain out of the chimney, and replaces a throat damper that may have rusted beyond repair.
Crowns need attention here too. Wind-driven rain off the Sound works into hairline cracks, and a crown with no overhang lets water run straight down the brick face. See chimney cap and crown repair for the options.
Inland Larchmont: Chatsworth Avenue to Flint Park
Away from the Manor, streets around the Chatsworth Avenue School, which opened in 1903, and the Murray Avenue School, built in 1922, reflect Larchmont's early-suburb years, with plenty of houses whose chimneys carry both a fireplace and a heating flue. Here the work is mostly annual sweeping, boiler flue checks and liner assessments after heating upgrades, plus the masonry care that any century-old chimney needs.
A common inland scenario: the house switched from oil to gas years ago, the boiler vents into the original clay tile flue, and nobody has looked inside since. Gas exhaust is cooler and wetter than oil exhaust, and in an oversized tile flue it condenses on the walls, softening mortar joints and flaking tile. A camera inspection shows the damage clearly, and a stainless steel liner sized to the boiler fixes it without touching the exterior brick.
